Ort Cafe Launch: New venue unites food and creative arts

[by Ahmed Ahmed]
Ort, a new cafe/bar opening its doors this Thursday (11 Nov), aims to combine the complementary ingredients of food, drink and creativity, creating a cultural and culinary space for Balsall Heath.
The new cafe, which becomes a bar by night, will serve as a gathering place for local artists, writers, musicians and thinkers as well as customers. The creators explained their aspirations to provide a cultural programme for the area:
“The events…will take the shape of language sessions, critical discussions on literature, philosophy, art and the sciences, art workshops, skills exchanges, salons, readings, social development and skills development through workshops.
“Moreover, ORT will provide free space for people’s meetings and there will also be a gallery space within the cafe that will allow people to exhibit their work free of charge on a first-come-first-served basis.”
Ort Artist and Community Cafe is launching on Thursday 11 November at 7pm. The opening will feature refreshments, works by contemporary artist Kirsten Linning and music by a variety of local musicians. See the full line-up here.
